Optimal integration of emerging ICTs in learning requires numerous changes in the classical education infrastructure. A core factor relates to teachers' abilities to utilize such technologies effectively.

 

UNESCO's global efforts in the past few years have told us that we must forge partnerships with the key players in this field while also defining what is really meant by "ICT Competencies".

 

Of course, there have been many attempts to approach such a definition by governments, academia and the private sector except that there was no universal agreement or common terminology in this important area. Therefore, it appears to us that setting the standards might really lead to significant progress in teacher training on the best ways to integrate technologies in their classrooms.
